Recycled Saree Dori: A Handspun Beauty

I’ve stumbled upon treasure for crafty, eco-fashion loving designers, artists and hobby enthusiasts! KnitSilk.com and their page on Elanic now sell beautifully textured handspun saree silk yarn, and it’s perfect for all kinds of knitting, crochet, decorative and jewellery projects. Here’s what it’s all about;

This yarn is also known as the Himalayan Sari Silk Yarn made from  Sari Silk Fiber. During the making of Saris in India, a lot of small finer threads of various colours are left over from the looms, which are then collected together. These are cleansed manually and then hand spun using the manual, human powered and zero carbon emission Takli (Drop Spindle) or the Charkha (Spinning Wheel).

The fact that excess fibres from textile production, one of our largest industries, are being put to use to create these beauties instead of being thrown away in tons of garbage on our already overwhelmed ecosystem is so commendable!

Can’t wait to start working with this lovely fibre, more posts coming up soon 🙂

You can buy it now for as less as Rs 399 from the links mentioned above!
