Handloom, Handblocked: Black Floral Ajrakh Kota Doria Saree

Handmade artisanal luxury in a light, breezy, wispy handloom cotton-silk Kota Doria, a slow fashion saree with a perfectly romantic maharani charm. The sari is hand block printed in an intricate, vibrant and geometrically eloquent Ajrakh pattern using natural dyes. Kota doria is a handloom textile of Rajasthan, while Ajrakh is a heritage hand block printing tradition of Ajrakhpur, Kutch. This saree is a beautiful marriage of two rich craft traditions from two states of the western desert. The handloom drape is soft and diaphanous, made buttery due to the natural pigments used for dyeing and the many layers of block printing it undergoes in the traditional Ajrakh process.

Both of these are centuries old crafts – Kota doria & Ajrakh. This saree represents the art, traditional aesthetic and deeply refined skillset of several generations of Indian artisans, honed over hundreds of years. Every purchase of a traditional textile supports the livelihood and purpose of these creators, fuelling one more step forward towards keeping our rich indigenous design heritage alive.

Featuring a delicate pattern. A blooming lattice of hand block printed flowers, naturally dyed in black, indigo and touches of madder root. The palla has hand embroidered tassels.

Kota doria is a cotton summer fabric that is lightweight, sheer and soft to drape. The Ajrakh hand printing process makes the textile go through many layers of hand printing and washing, and the natural pigments involved has made this Kota Doria buttery soft like a mulmul, it will not be stiff to drape.

This is a natural fabric made using natural fibres and dyed with natural dyes only. It is slow, artisanal and handmade in every step of it’s production.

Please Note: This product is slow and handmade in entirety, and it will not have the perfect symmetry of machine made textiles. Irregularities in print/dye, slight imperfections on the body/border or colour wash effects are a natural part of hand-printed, hand-dyed textiles and are not considered a defect. This is a testament to the handmade process and evidence of genuine artisanal involvement in the making of this saree. There will always be a slight, inevitable variation in colours as perceived by your eyes on a screen versus how they appear to the eye in real life. We always find that our Ajrakhs look even more beautiful in real life!
